I believe in blackboards.

Our final project for my Teaching With Technology course asked us to make a "This I Believe" podcast; here it is, for your listening pleasure! Enjoy.

  1. No wonder you liked the sound of chalk in the Social Work room! :)

  2. I really enjoyed your podcast, Saskia. I thought you were eloquently spoken and I generally found myself getting a bit nostalgic about my primary school days as well. I think you make the point that teaching can be done without fancy technologies, and that is something I think can be easy to forget. The true art of teaching lies not within the tools the teacher uses. Lovely thoughts.

  3. Hey Saskia,

Very nice podcast! (Even though I cringe at the sound of chalk or anything touching chalkboards, I enjoyed the effect at the beginning!) I agree with Christine, that your podcast made me feel a bit nostalgic.

It makes me wonder about how students of today (our 21st century learners!) will feel when they get to hold their new-fangled techie "chalk" in their hands, and what they will feel nostalgic about when they reach our age.

And then...thinking about my experiences of figuring out that aspect of my identity in direct relation to my handwriting, I wonder what students will do when going through this process, if they are using tablets and a stylus? Will there even be a pen vs. pencil preference??? (I am ALL about the pens!)

One more thing...the legendary Anne Shirley slate! I have to add that to your list of nostalgic chalkboard experiences (though this particular one proved to be effective for matchmaking purposes).
